Electrical Design Solutions Limited was founded by Lee Flowers in 2019. Lee has over 35 years’ experience within the electrical industry, ranging from electrician, cost planner and consultancy work.

Originally from the UK, Lee started his working career as an apprentice electrician within a major international company based in the UK. Studying for the trade certificates to achieve electrician status, Lee continued to study to a Higher National Standard Certificate, majoring in the building design services (electrical bias).

Once he had qualified as an electrician (UK), he advanced into an office role as a Major Cost Planner/Estimator where he tendered for and successfully secured multi-million pound projects for the company ranging from hotels, multi storey office developments to complete hospital rebuilds.

Progressing from this role, Lee became involved with Private Finance Initiatives (PFI) schemes which involved not just capex cost planning but also life cycle costs for the duration of the building(s) and because of his work in this field, Lee has a true understanding of “value for money” for his clients when it comes to the initial design aspects verses the capital costs of a project.

Lee and his family have lived in Dunedin since emigrating from the UK in 2005 and for 10 years worked as a Senior Electrical Engineer within a locally owned consultancy.

During this time Lee worked on a variety of projects, ranging from houses, schools, office developments and process plants through to hospital work.

Lee has been working closely with a local private hospital for over 12 years working as the Principal Electrical Engineer on the hospital’s major redevelopment scheme.
